Bathroom Floorings
The sheer amount of choice in bathroom floorings mean that picking the right type of flooring for your bathroom can be a daunting process. From carpet to stone, vinyl to laminate, each bathroom floorings option has a multitude of pros and cons, and there are numerous factors that need to be considered in making a choice: cost, practicality, moisture resistance, style and safety. It is certainly worth putting in some careful consideration to what flooring type suits your needs and budget.
In most houses in the UK, our underlying bathroom floorings are made from chipboard. This material responds notoriously badly to leaks, spillages and any moisture in general. It is essential, therefore, to protect and cover it with bathroom floorings that are leak-resistant, and ensure that they are correctly installed. Traditional flooring options such as carpet and solid hardwood can rot and begin to smell when exposed to moisture, and can be difficult to clean.
At MBD Bathrooms, we supply two types of bathroom floorings: Plastic and Vinyl, as these offer the best balance of affordability, aesthetic appeal, leak resistance and general day-to-day resistance to the wear-and-tear of frequent use.
Plastic Bathroom Floorings
Plastic bathroom floorings are an excellent new alternative to the standard laminate floorings found in many houses. Common laminate flooring is made up of mdf core with a melamine layer. Whilst this top layer is usually splash-resistant, should any water come into contact with the mdf core, either through damage, wear-and-tear or incorrect installation, it will expand and bubble and inevitably have to be removed and replaced.
Plastic bathroom floorings are made entirely from durable, water-resistant synthetic materials, thus eliminating the risk of moisture contamination entirely; they are 100% Waterproof, making them ideal for bathroom applications – although they can also be laid anywhere that standard laminate flooring can.

Our plastic bathrooms floorings are manufactured by Dumafloor and Aqua-Step. Aesthetically, they look identical to standard laminate floorings, and are available in a wide variety of naturalistic designs. |
Vinyl Bathroom Floorings
Vinyl flooring comes in two types: tiles and sheet. As the names suggest, sheet vinyl is a large piece of vinyl that has to be cut to fit, and whilst it is extremely durable, it is also difficult to install. Vinyl tiles are slightly less durable but infinitely easier to lay down – they can easily be installed over a weekend.
